The Casuarina Series—Artwork

The Casuarina Series begins with the delicate segmented foliage of the Australian native Casuarina tree.

A single botanical form is isolated and repeated, becoming progressively less recognisable as plant and increasingly read as pattern. Through shifts in scale, orientation, repetition and colour, the original motif generates three distinct compositions.

What interests me is the point at which recognition begins to slip. The source remains present, but repetition alters the way we see it: branch becomes line, foliage becomes rhythm, and something observed in the natural world becomes an abstract visual field.

The series continues my longstanding interest in botanical imagery and pattern—not simply as decoration, but as a way of reorganising what we see.
