Tip Shop Art Competition – Winner Announced
July 8, 2013 KT

KT Doyle & Lord Mayor Graham Quirk in JEANBAG_B&W

The winner of the Brisbane City Council Tip Shop Art Competition 2013 was announced last Thursday at a media event held at the Brisbane Square Library, which has been hosting the two-month long exhibition.

Congratulations to collaborators Bec Peart and Martin Pedder for their creative entry, Junkalina and the Clockingbird, which won the competition with the most public votes. They truly put their hearts and souls into their work and I have to say it was one of my favourite pieces in the competition.

I’m very excited to let you know that JEANBAG™ came in a strong second and I would like to thank everyone who voted and supported my entry. The incredible feedback I’ve had throughout the competition has kept me highly motivated to continue working hard to bring JEANBAG™ to you as soon as possible. It was nice to be congratulated by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Graham Quirk (pictured) and have the opportunity to talk to him about how I am turning my competition entry into a fully fledged business. He was very supportive and said to me while sitting in one of my JEANBAGs, “this is really comfortable!”. Thank you Lord Mayor Quirk!

Congratulations also to Peter Fegan for his entry, Don’t go out in the woods today, which came in third and to all the other artists for their creative entries and passion for recycling.

I would like to take this moment to thank the Brisbane City Council for establishing and organising this competition. Everyone at Council, the Tip Shops, Brisbane Square Library and the Endeavour Foundation have been an absolute pleasure to work with.

I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such lovely, supportive and talented people and now that the competition and exhibition have come to a close, I am excited about where JEANBAG™ is headed
