Good creative practice involves constant and high-quality documentation of both your processes and the final work.
Documenting processes for use in presentations, lecturing and to help you recreate the work again if required is invaluable. It’s also helpful in learning from mistakes, disasters and happy accidents… Trust me, if you’re not already doing this, it’s a great habit to take up!
Documenting the final work is imperative for future client presentations and to keep a consistent and ongoing portfolio of your creative work. It’s great for press coverage too!
That’s why I always use a professional photographer to document my final work. And by now you know my preferred photographer is Troy Hansen. Yesterday, together with Jay Dee Dearness, Myrtle Street Studio’s director, I installed my upcoming exhibition Collected Patterns: The botany of Walter Hill. Many thanks Jay Dee! We are quite chuffed with how the show presents now after all these months of planning, meeting, measuring and deciding and Troy did a splendid job of documenting the individual works and the overall exhibition display.
