Queensland Premier’s Design Awards 2011 – Breakfast Seminar & Briefing

Queensland Premier’s Design Awards 2011 – Breakfast Seminar & Briefing
April 15, 2011 KT

This morning, I attended the Queensland Premier’s Design Awards Breakfast Seminar, held at the beautiful State Library of Queensland (SLQ) Auditorium, Brisbane.

The early start was made extremely pleasant with lots of interesting conversations with arts and design professionals held over steaming hot cups of tea and tasty breakfast nibbles.

After the soft start, Kent Gration from Wambamboo, the recipient of the 2010 Emerging Designer Award, gave a narrative-style powerpoint presentation showing how he used the $10,000 award for research into the prime material for his furniture and lighting products, bamboo, at the source in China.

Next up, the Queensland Design Fellow, Alexander Loterstain from Derlot spoke about his role in advocacy for design in Queensland both in the centres and the regions. Alex was awarded a $40,000 fellowship in this inaugural round of funding.

We also heard from Tory Jones, Building Development and Design Director, SLQ, regarding the Asia Pacific Design Library (which we all wandered through after the presentations), along with current and upcoming events for art and design at the State Library. And, Ellen Yang, Principle Arts Advisor (Design), Arts Queensland, regarding the application process for the 2011 round.

Entries for 2011 close COB 29 April. For more information, contact Arts Queensland
