So far, I’ve introduced Flannel Flower Damask and Coral, the first two designs in the initial range of contemporary wallpapers I’ve designed for Moore & Moore, the new Sydney-based, Australian company offering Australian-designed, Australian-made quality wall coverings. Here’s a bit about our third design…
We wanted to feature a bold stripe in our first collection, something with a twist on the standard stripes offered by other companies. The Ticking Stripe, also known as ‘French ticking’, seemed like a lovely and poetic way to bring the stripe from fabric applications to wallpaper and create a visual language borrowed from tradition and made modern. Just as with my post on the Coral design, I haven’t included a detail of the motifs (more to reveal to you down the track!), however, a likeness to woven and stitched fabric has been developed in the elements used to create the stripes. It’s hard to say what type of repeat structure is used to create a stripe, but if I have to liken it to any, I’d suggest a spaced brick repeat.
