I’ve recently had the opportunity to mentor two talented artists. They were both seeking support regarding their respective grant applications, one for Brisbane City Council‘s Creative Sparks Grant and the other for SignatureBrisbane‘s Seed Grant, both of which I have gratefully been a successful recipient.
I have to say, I am absolutely delighted to be able to give back to the industry and these organisations in this way. Mentoring creates such an intimate relationship as the mentoree shares deeply about his/her project and the mentor about his/her experiences. It is such a fulfilling position to be in and I am honoured to have been asked by both these artists to share my experiences and talk to them about their projects and goals. Whilst this was an informal arrangement, organised between us after meeting at a seminar, I’m really glad they took me up on my offer as their enthusiasm and drive has given me so much.
