2011. Inter_play – Saturday Indesign Singapore
May 20, 2011 KT

New work, as an extension of my recent exhibition Collected Patterns: The botany of Walter Hill is showing in the group exhibition, Inter_play, which opens tonight at Chan Hampe Galleries, Raffles Hotel Singapore as part of Saturday Indesign Singapore.

Conceived by Chan Hampe Galleries, Singapore and Spiro Grace Art Rooms, (SGAR) Australia this collaborative exhibition project presents a unique opportunity for international cultural exchange and a playful exploration of cultural identity, showcasing one-off and limited edition pieces by leading Australian and Singaporean practitioners whose individual practices challenge the notions of art and design.

Inter_play is an exhibition reflective of experimental practice and the convergence of art and design disciplines. Drawing on the emergent international phenomenon of design/art this landmark exhibition brings to light the intricacies of interdisciplinary practice within contemporary cultural production in the Asia Pacific region.

I have selected three of the Giclée prints from Collected Patterns: ‘Cabbage Palm’, ‘Casuarina’ and ‘Bromeliad’ (pictured below) and created a limited edition mustard colourway, which are exclusively available through SGAR. Printed on the same beautiful Hanemüehle 100% Cotton Rag paper as the original black/white edition, using long-life pigment inks, these vibrant prints are bursting with the energy and life of tropical and sunny Queensland where I live.

Curated by Benjamin Milton Hampe, Jenni Baxter and Renai Grace, the show includes Australian Creatives: Alexander Lotersztain, Chris Bosse, Christina Waterson, Kent Gration, Donna Marcus, Stuart Williams, Matt Dwyer, Marc Harrison, KT Doyle and Tegan Empson and Singaporean Creatives: Grace Tan, Hans Tan, Jason Lim, Max Kong, Casey Chen, Safaruddin Abdul Hamid and Jonathan Leong.

The project is supported by Saturday InDesign Singapore and Habitus Magazine.

Exhibition runs until 4 June 2011…
