2012 has been a great year and in looking back I’ve learned a lot…
I learned to bring the focus back to my blog, What I learned last week, by returning to its original purpose of sharing my ideas, inspiration and perspectives within my creative practice.
I learned to collaborate across creative disciplines when I worked with the talented composer and musician, Robert Davidson, on our sculptural soundscape for the Fifth Edition of the experimental exhibition series, Seven with Another.
I learned that acts of kindness are rewards in themselves, when I helped fellow designer Christina Waterson with her amazing pop-up exhibition as part of Brisbane Indesign.
I learned about making choices, asking for sponsorship, teamwork and analysing projects to work out what went right, what didn’t and what I can improve next time.
I learned so much through creating new work for my solo exhibition, Recollected Patterns: The botany of Walter Hill, from sampling and coordinating colours across media to framing and how a great artist talk can inspire.
And, I realised how much I have learned when my 18-month project to develop souvenirs for the South Bank Visitors Centre in Brisbane culminated and all the new merchandise was delivered into their store.
Most of all, I’ve learned everything this year thanks to the talented people I know, the generous people who post on the blogs I follow, the experts I work with to bring my artwork and products to life, the risks I take with my work and, through my friends and family who listen to my questions, musings and doubts. I’d would like to thank you all.
I already know that 2013 will give me new things to learn, offer exciting challenges and bring with it a fresh set of projects to test and progress my development in my creative field.
