Letterpress Print A6 Mixed ThreeThis exquisite letterpress print is one of three botanical patterns in the Collected Patterns Mixed Three series. Erythroxylon Coca is native to South America and is best known for its alkaloids, a powerful stimulant called cocaine. Walter Hill cultivated it in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for its medicinal properties and as a substitute for tea, coffee, tobacco and opium. Including it in this series illustrates the importance of Botanical Gardens as hot-houses for experimentation, which was one of their main functions. Printed on beautiful handmade Magnani Incisioni 650/5 Smooth White 100% Cotton Rag Paper with rubber-based inks using an original Heidelberg Windmill Letterpress, this print is one of a very limited edition of 20 impressions and is highly collectible. Each print is signed, numbered and titled on the back, wrapped in acid-free tissue and presented in a beautiful custom envelope, perfect for gifting. Indigenous to areas of South and Central America, the ornamental Caladium is often known as ‘Elephant Ear’, ‘Heart of Jesus’ and ‘Angel Wings’ due to the shape of its leaves. Walter Hill’s Conservatory in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens was often full of seedlings he was rearing to plant in the Gardens and distribute throughout Queensland.
