DESIGN SPOT – Little Jane St

DESIGN SPOT – Little Jane St
November 17, 2010 KT

After the recent opening of her lovely Little Jane St store (which I posted about here and you can see images here), Alarna Zinn is keeping busy as Xmas rapidly descends upon us! So, as part of the DESIGN SPOT column, today I’d like to welcome Alarna to the mic to tell us a little bit about her wares, shop and projects…

What services do you offer?

At Little Jane St we design, make and sell all sorts of stationery, textile and papery goodness.

The Little Jane St boutique stationery collection currently includes hand collaged limited edition greeting cards and gift enclosures, gift tag sets, paper decorations, limited edition prints, signature wrap, hand-printed ribbon, journals and other stationery tidbits!

Describe your background and what led you to starting your business?

I am a trained and practiced Graphic Designer turned business owner. Unfulfilled with Brisbane’s corporate design work offerings, I decided to try something new and invest my graphic design training in a wholly original, unique and artistically boundless business venture.

What kinds of projects are you working on?

I have just opened the doors to the very first Little Jane St shop here in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane! At the moment I am settling into shop life and continually working on producing new products for our shelves!

What are the most important things for you to communicate through your designs?

Colour, whimsy, uniqueness…

Are there any specific design influences in your work or do you have a signature style?

I search for the beautiful, strange and unique in everything, whether it is from something discovered while ferreting around in second hand shops or adapting those traditional craft practices learnt from our grandmothers. Inspiration can be sourced from anything. The materials that feature within the Little Jane St collection often draw ideas and inspiration from tactile objects, including discarded fabrics, old story books, sewing patterns and ornate objects such as manual typewriters, discarded cutlery and vintage ceramics.

How can we contact you?

Knock on my door, ring on my bell and tap on my window if you feel so inclined… or alternatively you can shop online at www.littlejanest.com.au, take a look at behind the scenes peeks at www.littlejanest.blogspot.com, or pop by our very own Little Jane St shop for a visit at 5C Winn Street, Fortitude Valley Q 4006.

Thanks Alarna and congratulations on your recent wedding… We love a good celebration! Follow the Little Jane St blog for details on upcoming events and start that Xmas shopping if you haven’t already in her online store or pop down to her store when the Valley Markets are on and make a day of it!
