Throughout January, Myrtle Street Studio’s (MSS) gallery director and talented printmaker, Jay Dee Dearness (pictured below) and I were creating some of the works featuring in my upcoming exhibition, Collected Patterns: The botany of Walter Hill, showing at MSS.
Last year, Jay Dee eagerly received delivery of her original Heidelberg Windmill Letterpress and just as eagerly wrote about it here. Letterpress is a medium that I have been hankering to experiment with and feel really fortunate to have had the opportunity to do so for this show. We had the time of our lives, in amongst the Brisbane floods and humidity drenched summer days, working on the fine art that is letterpress printing. The song and rhythm of the press in full printing glory is addictive and after our recent success, I can tell you now, I’m already looking forward to creating the next editions!
So, now you know one of the mediums in the show is letterpress… keep following as I reveal more about the exhibition as it draws closer.
