Synopsis

MADE continues SGAR’s ongoing commitment to contributing to the international dialogue surrounding the emergence of design/art. This exhibition features one-off or limited edition works by selected Australian designers/artists KT Doyle (QLD), Matt Dwyer (QLD), Cinnamon Lee (NSW), Stuart Williams (TAS) and Susan Lincoln (QLD).

My work includes three black and white giclée prints further exploring the Casuarina design originally created for my 2011 solo exhibition, Collected Patterns: The botany of Walter Hill. Included in this new Casuarina Repeat Series, are: Casuarina Wreath, which lays out the motif in a circular form eliciting the shape of a wreath bordering a looking glass of human proportions; Casuarina Dome, repeats the motifs using a fish-eye lens effect creating a simultaneously concave/convex image with an underlying sense of globality; and Casuarina Sateen, throws the motif in a traditional multi-directional tossed repeat design, suggesting something more universal. The deep, rich, matt black ink creates the illusion of the white Casuarina motifs hovering above the surface, as if floating in space. Their ethereal quality is both optical and three dimensional and yet based in simplicity. One motif, many translations…
